What a Swedish massage is

Swedish massage is the foundation most other Western massage styles are built on. Your therapist works through your back, shoulders, neck, arms, legs and feet with long gliding strokes, kneading, gentle circular movements and light tapping, using warm oil so every stroke stays smooth. The goal is simple: bring your nervous system down from “on” to “off” and get blood moving through tired muscles.

It is not a gentle version of a deep tissue massage. The two do different jobs. Swedish massage relaxes the whole body; deep tissue massage goes after specific knots.

Who it suits

  • First massage ever. The pressure is comfortable and your therapist checks in with you throughout.
  • Long weeks at a desk or behind the wheel. General stiffness and the heavy, run-down feeling respond well.
  • Trouble switching off. Many guests book an evening session because they sleep noticeably better that night.
  • A treat or a gift. It is the easiest massage to enjoy without knowing what you want.

If what you really have is a stubborn knot under the shoulder blade or a stiff neck that has lasted weeks, you will get more from deep tissue. Not sure? Our Swedish vs deep tissue vs Thai comparison helps you decide in a minute.

Before you book

Avoid a heavy meal in the hour before, and tell us if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, a recent injury or surgery, a fever or a skin condition. We may adjust the treatment or suggest checking with your doctor first. Afterwards, drink water and take it easy for the evening.

“My visit happened in February 2022 – I had a Swedish therapy + body scrub. The service was on the whole good and the cost is affordable. The therapist is very professional.”

Questions guests ask

Is Swedish massage good for a first-timer?

Yes. It is the massage we recommend most often for a first visit because the pressure is light to medium and fully adjustable.

How long is a Swedish massage?

A full-body Swedish massage typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you the session lengths available that day.

Swedish or deep tissue: which should I choose?

Choose Swedish for overall relaxation and stress. Choose deep tissue if you have specific knots, chronic tightness or gym soreness.

Can I combine it with a body scrub or facial?

Yes. Many guests pair a Swedish massage with our nourishing body polish or a facial. Ask us when you book so we can plan the timing.
