What deep tissue massage does
Where a Swedish massage relaxes the whole body, deep tissue massage targets specific problem areas. Your therapist warms the muscles first, then uses slower strokes, forearm and thumb pressure and sustained holds on tight spots, commonly the neck, upper back, shoulders and lower back. The aim is to loosen contracted muscle and connective tissue so movement feels easier.
Who it suits
- Desk and laptop posture. Rounded shoulders and a stiff neck from long hours at a screen.
- Long commutes. Lower back tension from sitting in Chennai traffic.
- Training and sport. Recovery for tight legs, back and shoulders after the gym, running or badminton.
- Tension that keeps coming back. The same knot you have been pressing yourself for weeks.
Will it hurt?
It should feel intense, not painful. A good deep tissue massage sits at a strong “good hurt” that you can breathe through. Your therapist builds pressure gradually and asks you to say when it is too much, and please do. Some mild soreness the next day is normal, much like after a workout, and usually gives way to looser muscles within a day or two.
Deep tissue massage is not a replacement for medical care. If you have a diagnosed injury, disc problem, recent surgery, a blood-clotting condition or are pregnant, check with your doctor first and tell us before your session.

Questions guests ask
Is deep tissue massage good for back and neck pain?
It is well suited to muscular tightness in the back, neck and shoulders. For pain from an injury or a medical condition, check with your doctor first.
Will I be sore after a deep tissue massage?
Mild soreness for a day is common, similar to after exercise. Drinking water and light movement help.
How often should I get a deep tissue massage?
For ongoing tension, many guests come every two to four weeks. Your therapist can suggest a rhythm after the first session.
Can I ask for less pressure during the massage?
Always. Tell your therapist at any point and they will adjust immediately.
